I’ve received a lot of inquiries lately as to who does the art and graphic design for Blush Response - so I figured I would make a post about it.
Our art is done by Mikey Buchanan ( http://mikeybuchanan.carbonmade.com/ ). He is an incredibly talented artist based out of NYC, and a great friend of mine. I first approached Mikey when I was looking to get the first Blush Response shirts made, and he immediately knew what to do. Within a day he created the incredibly sick designs you see on the shirts, with just a few vague points of input from my end.
For each design, I gave Mikey some basic guidelines and let him extrapolate on them any which way he pleased. There were no real rules. I wanted his own interpretation of what he thought Blush Response looked like, and he definitely delivered. Uniformity was key, as was creating visual icons and themes that could be applied to future designs to bring everything together. I wanted something resembling a propaganda poster without being too cheesy. I love the dystopian atmospheres in sci fi novels and films such as Neuromancer and Blade Runner, and I wanted to capture that essence within the official shirts for the band.

With the WAR digipak, we sought to continue the uniform design found in the shirts, and turn the Replicant Eye TV into the logo for the band. I wanted to expand on the dystopian propaganda idea while bringing in some new elements to the designs, and Mikey knew exactly where to take them.

You can check out more of Mikey’s work at his Official Website.
